02 Quattro - Loss of power in turns

Posted by Jason Smith at December 12. 2011

Hi I am new to the forum and to TTs.  I have an 02 Quattro 180 that I purchased in October with 81k.  I have recently had the 80K service and Timing belt procedure done.  Not sure if the issue I am having is normal, I have done a search in the forums and other sites but cannot seem to find the exact problem/solution.  When I make a hard turn left or right, from a stop or rolling e.g. at a stoplight turning left. The car seems to have a loss of power to the wheels at about 2500-3000 RPMs. Engine continues speed continues to climb but car is not accelerating.  It feels as if I have pushed in the clutch, when I have not.  If the turn is a little more gradual or a larger ark the problem does not seem to happen. I have read that with the quattro the ECU can cut power in certain conditions.  This problem does not happen when driving straight or on bends etc.  As a sub-issue which maybe normal, while doing some test driving in a parking lot, if I have the car stopped, put it in 1st and turn a hard 360 the car drags and jerks and the ESP light flashes. But if I drive straight slowly into the hard 360, there is no problem.  Thanks for any advice.
