Curb rash on 17" 5 spoke wheels

Posted by Syd Howell at May 10. 2009

I bought my 2002 225Q used. It has the 5 spoke wheels that were part of the summer performance tire package. 3 of the wheels have curb rash. I will need new tires soon and would like to have nice wheels. I like their design and don't want to change them.

Has anyone had their wheels repaired?

Do you know anyone in the Charlotte NC area that can fix them?

If not, has anyone found a reasonable source for replacements?

Thank you!

I have the six spoke 18" wheels that came on the 05 S line...

I actually called a local Audi dealer and asked them who they call for wheel repair on used cars... they gave me a guys number.

He came out to my location with everything he needed and fixed the wheel right there, Buffed out the rash and filled where needed and did a perfect paint job ( Audi wheels have a grey/ silver paint over the aluminum )
Seriously, I couldn't even find where he did the repair...

$75 per wheel, took him maybe 20 minutes to do 2 wheels.

Says he mostly does luxury sports cars... and occasionally has to recommend replacement or re-balancing the wheel if the damage is bad enough...

I would not hesitate a second to call the same guy if I ever rub another wheel...

So my advice is to contact your local Audi re-seller, or other dealer who sells luxury sports cars used... most of the cars they get in need some wheel work and chances are they don't do it in house.
They will give you the name of the guy they use.

Thanks Christopher,

My wheels are polished aluminum with a clearcoat finish so they may be harder to repair.

That is a great suggestion though. I will call around and see what I can find. Has anyone used someone like this  in NC?

I JUST went to like 5 local wheel repair shops around Boston, MA for the same deal, very minor curb rash, and every single shop said they wouldnt do any touchup jobs with just sanding and touchup painting (even though I had it done 5 years ago from my local body shop in upstate new york). Every single shop now says that they have to send the whole wheel out, remove the tires, sandblast the entire wheel and paint agian from scratch, which costs about 200 bucks per wheel and takes the wheels out of commission for a few days. I would LOVE if anyone knows an on the spot repair company in this area....
