Stock engine/tranny/drivetrain hp/torque limits

Posted by Anthony Fry at May 07. 2010

2001 TT 225 (Quattro 6-sp).

I pulled the tranny out to change the clutch and right above it was the turbo, which had oil all over it. Then in my intake plumbing between the intercoolers had oil too. So, I'm replacing the turbo with a bigger one, but can't really use its potential yet w/o a remap and probably injectors and so on.

But my overall question is how much power can I get out of the engine before it would fail? I know a stronger clutch is most likely needed, but what about valves and rods and such? I know the 225 has forged rods... What about the drivetrain? Basically if I try to get anywhere near 400hp or so out of this thing am I going to have to replace all the internals?

If this has already been posted I am very sorry, but I searched and didn't find anything other than talk about the clutch.

Good Morning,

Big Turbo and high Performance  http://www.audiforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94165

I would first figure out which turbo you will be going with and software then once to know your new torgue

limits find a clutch that will handle it.  Personally I'm looking at a stage 3 clutch from South Bend!

Hope this helps!
