I am thinking about designing and manufacturing an iPhone holder for the TT that would replace the Ashtray insert for a simple, elegant and out of the way solution to mounting an iPhone in the MK1 TT.


I am curious whether the folks on this forum would be interested in such a product and how much they might be willing to spring for such a thing?

It would allow for a short throw Lighter socket connector... (no cables draping all over ) and hold the phone either vertically or landscape without needing a "clamp" and when the phone is removed, the ashtray would close as it does normally, concealing the mount entirely.

I'l have digital models of it before I go to print... that allows for rendering realistic images of it...

depends on how many I can sell... if only a few- I might prefer to go direct to a 3D digital print..

As fart as look.... the idea would be to not see the mount at all, just the phone.

Steve at Modshack (makers of the TTDA) has some interesting stuff available for holding phones. Probably not as elegant as what your describing, but probably a hell of a lot lower cost too.

That's not a bad solution... but it still has the phone and its charger cable in front of a bunch of stuff, and, when I take the phone out, I still have that unsightly mount.

I am looking to design a mount that fits in the ashtray with all connectors and power plug- or radio cable all internal so there is no mess...

Thing it- I can design it digitally and print the thing as a final part directly to a 3D printer... so there is no tooling cost...
Tho 3D printing is not cheap...

Once I have one, however- I could mold it and cast more if there were a demand.
