New oil drain plug?

Posted by dougbenjamin at August 11. 2008
The Bentley manual recommends a "NEW" oil drain plug at routine oil changes. How many of you really do this? Is it really necessary? What about just replacing the crush washer? ....or reusing the old one? I just did my first oil change (2000 1.8L) and "reused"-- am I bad?

Just did my first oil change also(2001 225 roadster) and i resused the old plug and washer. I actually went to the dealer and bought a new plug that came with a washer and i also bought two more additional washers. Well, when I'm ready to put the new plug in it doesn't work. Looks exactly the same but it won't screw in. Or at least i wasn't going to risk the threads on my oil pan to force it. Also, The washer does not come off the old one. So i can't use a new washer unless i doubled up. So, i used the old one and no leaks so far. I'm going to return the plug and washers i bought from the dealer.

I went the same route as well......

The dealer told me that Audi uses a forever plug and doesn't need replacing.

I did buy one just in case.

It's amazing that we can drop big $$$$ to Do It Yourself and the Bentley isn't even correct.
