Audi Extends Timing Belt Warranty to 105,000 miles

Posted by tiny at August 05. 2008

Here's a copy of the documentation I received today officially extending the timing belt warranty on 2000~2003 TT's (and A4's) to 105,000 miles. This new coverage is the result of a class action suit filed in California.

That's right. Some of put lost thousands of dollars to failing timing belts:

That money is not lost.  It's time to stop lamenting and go collect
those thousands from Audi.  If you look at the Audi letter you'll notice they'll
reimburse you if the timing belt system failed on a 2000~2003 TT or A4.

Clearly, this
settlement puts an end to that old and very long thread you refer to by putting
those folks that have had this problem back on level ground.

At this
point I have more doubts about what will happen when all the '00~'03 TT''s &
A4's start going in for those required inspections.  Seems to me that if at this
point the dealers start telling owners that they need a new timing belt it'll be
considered normal wear and the cost to repair falls back on the owner.  If you
read the extended warranty is says that:

"The extended warranty does not cover replacement or repair of the
timing belt system as part of scheduled maintenance or as indicated by
inspection of the system.
"

So, the bottom line is:

  • If your TT's timing belt broke
in the past you'll be fully reimbursed.

  • If it breaks in the
future you're pretty much out of luck unless the dealer doesn't advise you that it
is going bad during an inspection.
