I have the original Conti Sport Contact2s on my 2003 225 TT purchased new in June of 2003. The car has about 33,000 on it but the tires probably have no more than 20,000 or so miles on them and there are no wear issurs. At what point should you think about replacing tires because of age not miles?

Hi - everything I've read suggests that <>5 years is optimal...obviously, climate and the type of motoring (i.e. mainly freeway or twisty bits!) also factors in to condition. However, I'm a great believer that tires are the one area where the owner can make a real difference in the handling/safety of their car. The availability of directional tires at a reasonable price is a major benefit in both these areas. Maybe a talk with your mechanic or, if you know of a reputable tire dealer in your area, let them take a look at your tires.
