Hey everyone, I was wondering what the best intake system would be for a 2001 TT 180 fwd. I have chipped it already but want more power. I have read about the Modshack intake and it sounds really good. I was wondering if this was a good choice or not. If not, what would be the best system for my car?

hello, new TT owner and was looking into an intake system injen was the only system that relocates the filter where it WORKS, in lower front bumper area, most intakes in the engine compartment do little because of the hot air there. i had a carbino on my 01 turbo jetta located similarly, the only kind of setup that gets real cold air, the injen is listed for the 180 hp fwd

Here is something you can do that will give you similar or greater power gains as a Neuspeed or VTDA, TTDA system....

Go with a AEM DryFlow Filter:

Couple with a BPI Flowstack, which will up flow into your TIP/MAF:

http://www.bpinitiatives.com/stacks.php (you'll want the 3")

You will likely need a 3" silicon filter to couple the New intake setup (above) to the MAF:

http://www.streetsideauto.com/products.asp?PTID=8595&brand=BGPJ&series=Silicone+Coupler&partnumber=5-250&Skip=True&LookupType=NON

With any system you'll also need a 1" breather filter to cover the intake for the SAI sensor line (you can get this at Schuck's/Advance too):

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=ATP-BFT-003&Category_Code=BCS

In my opinion, this is essentially the same as the Neuspeed/VTDA but with the added benefit of the Flowstack.

Also, one thing with chipping is that the turbo now draws air significant more air that can collapse the stock Turbo Inlet Pipe (TIP), which is made of rubber, under hard acceleration... which starves your turbo of flow:

See this vid:

To remedy this I installed an APR silicone TIP, which is a good step-by-step DIY install:

Part: http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/pagebuild_v2.cgi?make=Audi&engine=225HP&model=TT%20MKI&submodel=Quattro&category=Engine&subcategory=Intake (Look under Compressor inlet hose, these differ between 180hp and 225hp, and also with your year, so check that also)

DIY Here: http://forums.fourtitude.com/zerothread?id=3976846

This is something I've been REALLY researching this, and decided to go with the above.... let me know if you have any questions. Other than HP (I'm seeing ~12whp gains) the sounds is AMAZING!

Best of Luck!!!

Jack
