New radio suggestions with original look
Up to Audi TT Forum
I have a 2003 225 with the original Bose radio and 6 CD changer. Although I only have about 39,000 miles a few of the radio button are showing a little wear. I was thinking of getting a new radio in part because of the wear and also as a means of adding controls for an Ipod rather than justgetting one of the Ipod adapters that replaces the multi CD box. My problems is I want the radio to looks as stock as possible with a flat black finish and the red back lighting. Not looking for something garish. Anyone have any suggestions? I'll probably give a Crutchfield a call to see if they can suggest something and maybe see if there are any newer Bose or Blaupunk radios that might work.
Another issue is removable faceplates... they often cause fit issues because they stick out further... depth clearance will be your biggest limiting factor...
But if you REALLY want to dress up the inside of the TT with something that will not necessarily clash....
how about THIS

they both have nothing sticking out... they offer iPod AND iPhone connectivity AND allow for handsfree bluetooth speakerphone thru the car stereo...
And they will play video from the iPhone/pod or other media.
Not cheap... but perhaps an elegant solution.

Have you installed one of these in your TT? If so, do you have any photos?
I can't afford $700 for a car stereo right now... but I was recently investigating a means of getting an iPhone/iPod hookup... and stumbled across this entirely new class of Audio in dash unit.
They even have ones were a much larger screen slides out like a CD tray... and then flips up...
But the idea is that this unit will work with steering wheel controls, instrument cluster display, hand's free phone over the speakers in the car, audio and video...
I have not seen one in the flesh to measure how far it stick out of the mount...
