Is my Audi TT Roadster 2000 or 2001? Need help! Please!
Hey
I got my Audi TT Roadster in Amulet Red
The dealer says it's 2001 and all my paper work for it says the same.
but I went to put a new clutch in and the shop pointed out that the sticker on the driver side states it was made 04/00
So they told me she is 2000 not a 2001.
How can I figure out if it's 2000 or 2001?
And if it is year 2000 can I sue the dealership?
Thanks

I think the key to your issue is the serial number. According to my Bentley manual, the 10th digit of the serial number of a TT represents the year. If it is a "Y" it is a "2000", if that digit is a "1" it is a "2001". The next year model car is routinely manufactured in the previous year. I don't know when Audi switches over production. However, for example many 2010 model cars are out and normally are released in the fall, previous to the actual calendar year change. So it is very possible that your car was manufactured in 4/00 but is indeed a 2001.
Hope this helps,

It is definitely a 2001. The roadsTTer model was not sold in the USA in 2000. The first year for USA sales of roadsTTers is 2001.
You should also find out if the timing belt & water pump have ever been replaced. If not, it is waaaaay overdue and could fail at any moment. These items should be replaced every 60K miles or 5 years whichever comes first irrespective of what your manual says. Your car is possibly covered by an extended warranty on these parts if they fail. Check with your local dealer.
I had an 01 and now have an 04 and love them.
