Cluster Recall
Up to Audi TT Forum
Does anybody know what happened to the instrument cluster recall? I was approved but never received anything else from them, any help would be appreciated, thanks Gary
I've heard form other TT forums that most people are just getting the run around much like the timing belt issue. Only a handfull of people have got checks and as for the cluster, I've yet to actually see someone who actually got it replaced. Lucky for me the only problems thus far is the fuel guage and info LCD display. (knock on wood)
What process did you go through to get approved and when? I imagine that there was a deadline and certain conditions you had to meet. (ie file claim before certain date or have proof you tried to fix it within six years of manufacture) I recall seeing the website for the cluster recall but don't know where it is now. If you search "cluster recall" here you see a few people who claim to have had it replaced by Audi but that was last year.
My fuel gage was reading low, so that at 150+ miles it was indicating empty! I'd go to the gas station and put in a whopping 7 gallons as a fill up.
I finally took it to the dealer for the coil recall - when I got the official letter to bring it in. Asked them to code the new keyfob I bought for the car. They replaced the coils for free but said they couldn't code the keyfob due to the instrument cluster being bad - it was preventing their computer from reading the codes! They wanted $1075 to replace the cluster. I said hold off for now, I'd be by to pick it up. I hit the laptop and searched the web and found this website: www.classcounsel.com/news/audi.html which indicated the Audi TT cluster settlement. In this paperwork, it indicated that as part of the settlement, they would add 2 years to the existing warranty (now up to 6 years). Unfortunately I found out the original owner bought the car Nov 17, 2003, so 6 years takes it to Nov 17, 2009, and here it is 10 weeks later Jan 29, 2010. Dealer said sorry, they gave me the Audi Customer Service number who said sorry also. Afterall 10 weeks is 10 weeks!. So my plan is to pull the cluster and send it out to BBA remanufacturing for $250. Maybe if I spent 40+k with this dealer to buy the car, or spend thousands on maintenance, they might have cut me a break. But my plan is to do as much repairs as possible without going to the dealer (he's already quoted me 1600 to do the timing belt - what a deal!!). So my recommendation is don't hold much hope in the cluster recall!
