2001 TT Convertible with top sensor issue

My warning light that says my top is not closed, even if it is, is always on.  What is the solution?

I was having the same prob.  I started having to hit the area next to the handle, and would get the light off and windows up.

My Prob: Hook from top was not pressing the switch far enough to get the sensor to engage (driver's side).  I would test to see if this is your problem --

1. Open the top about half way.

2. Stand up next to the car, and look into the area that attaches the top to the car.

3. On the driver's side use your finger and make the same motion that the hook would make as you lock in the top.  You should feel a little rocker tab that clicks.  (Passenger side it is inside a hole, that a peg fits in)

4. Press the tab and look to see if the light goes off.

Over time the tab gets a little touchy, and the hook just doest reach far enough to switch it.

True solution: Audi will try and have you replace the switch mounted in the recepticle above the winshield.

My solution: Take someting  and attach to the front so that the hook has about another 1/4 to 1/2 inch added to the tip. ( I used electrical tape wrapped around the hook).  Since doing this I haven't had a problem..

Hope it helps..

Thanks for the advice, I thought it had something to do with the handle, never thought to look there for the problem.
I'll let you know the result when I get  a second to investigate.

I have an 04 Roadster, and had the same problem, and just got done playing with it today!  I removed the plastic molding and played around with the ball nut securing the latch mechanism that rotates.  The Bentley book says to set a distance of 3.1" from the inside of the metal post to the outer edge of the hook when the mechanism is rotated to the furthest out position.  Unfortunately, when I did this, the rotating handle would not close.  I fiddled with various positions of the ball nut assembly and torqued mounting plate, and reduced the distance down to 2.820 to finally get the handle to even close, but the darn light was still on!  So I dropped back and punted, and RTV'd a washer to the switch striker plate (black tape is temporarily holding it on.  Now when I closed the top, the light went out, and the handle flipped closed.  Once the RTV cures (tomorrow), I'll remove the tape.  For now the Ragtop is pressing the washer in position while it cures.

There's probably a sweet spot where everything clicks, but I couldn't find it after messing with it all afternoon I just couldn't find that sweet spot where everything worked.  Don't see this as worth spending money at the dealer.
