2001 Audi TT Tire question

Posted by chad freeman at July 02. 2009

Hey I have a 2001 Audi TT - 225/45/17 tires

I was told that if I run any other tire than the EXACT one on my car that the rearend and any problems that I may incurr will be null and void because of the gearing and weight and special tread and all that jazz.

Is this for real????  the tires last hardly any time and I am thinking about putting some shocks and struts on it - but one place said that it woudl cost 100 bucks for the shock install............is that a real number????

I wanted to buy some tires from TireRack that actually have some treadwear numbers that are above 200 LIKE 400 with A traction and A Temp.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated

Thanks

Chad

If the car is quattro, then the critical thing is that all 4 tires are the same size. But Audi offers the TT with several different tire sizes.

I can not even have ONE new and one worn tire on the front or back... with the quattro and the ABS the tire WEAR has to pretty well match on the front pair and the back pair. ( tho I can have worn on the front and new on the back, as long as they match from left to right )

If I have one new and one old on the front, or the back, my ABS system has fits...

Thanks for the info - it is AWD.

I was going to call the dealership to see what they said but I am not for sure they would be 100% honest.

Thanks again

Anyone else have any other wise comments on the tires????
