RPM and Traction Control Issues
Up to Audi TT Forum
Hi All -
I have a 2002 audi tt quattro roadster (225 hp) with about 95K miles on it. Recently I've been experiencing some weird issues while driving. Last week while driving on a straight road at about 45 mph, the traction control system kicked in and i lost the ability to continue to accelerate. I pulled over to the side of the road and had to turn my car off and then back on in order to disengage the system - although the light was still on. It happened a couple more times over the weekend and, from what I experimented with, appeared to be occuring whenever the revs got in the 3-4k range. Additionally, the check engine light appeared.
When I was about to bring it to a repair shop yesterday, I noticed that all of the lights had gone off (including the check engine light). I drove it around for a bit and decided things seemed okay - however, I did not try getting the rpm into the high range. Anyway, when I started my car this morning, the revs where jumping around quite wildly while parked (about 500 rpm swings) and driving it this morning i noticed inconsistent revs while in gears 1-4, but only when i was at about 2k rpm. It wouldn't be jumping wildly, but within about two hundred rpm. I could also notice it just via how the car drove - when accelerating, it was like having a hiccup.
Not sure if anyone has experienced this or has any ideas, but I wanted to get some preliminary feedback before bringing it into the shop.
Thanks.
I would say, is time to check the time belt. Mine had the same simptoms before blew off. Take it to the shop. Drive safe

As suggested above, I'd suspect the maf sensor. That and the cam adjuster caused me some similar issues. Once fixed, the lag issue disappeared and also got back to better fuel consumption. When the maf really 'goes' it'll trigger the check engine light, but before it chucks it in totally, you see this kind of spotty problem with acceleration.
