Outside Cover for my 2004 TT Conv.

Posted by Elaine Teixeira at May 21. 2009

Hi I am new to the forum and a new tt ower. I need to get a cover for my tt and was wondering if anyone has any good leads as to what covers are good. My car is outside, no garage :( so I need a cover that is good outside. Does it need to be a cover fit for my car or would any cover do?

Thanks for the help

Hi, I know when I hunted for covers, there were lots out there to choose. I went with the cover in this link below, but the weather in Central Coast Cali does not really test out the water proof qualities of the cover, plus car is in the garage as opposed to outside. It fits easily and folds up fairly small. Has a window on the back for the number plate and a fitting for the aerial.

You may want to look for something a little thicker and more weatherproofed than this if the car is going to outside all the time and you get more wet weather.

there are some really good ones and real cheap ($50) from Costco, surprisingly enough, a buddy of mine swears by them...but i dont have any personal experience.

I bought a Costco cover and it does not fit the TT very well - too big, wrong contour.  I ended up buying an Audi OEM cover which, naturally, fits perfectly.  The OEM cover seems to be of considerably higher manufacturing quality and better (but thinner) cloth material than the Costco Chinese import.  It also packs down into a much smaller carrying bag than the bulkier Costco cover.

Incidentally, the Audi OEM cover is available in both coupe and roadster models, so be careful if you're buying one. They can occasionally be found new on eBay at a considerable savings.  Also, the Coupe cover has a little "pouch" at the top-rear for a factory cellular antenna, which is a not often seen option on a TT.  Looks a little funny flopping in the wind.

Hey Elaine - just got an OEM Roadster cover for $70 by keeping an eye on a few Audi boards. And pouncing! Other have noted that there is a difference between the Coupe and Roadster cover - there is also the Mk-1 and Mk-2 versions of the OEM, so pay attention. Audi calls the fabric "Stormshield" tho it does not *seem* truly water-proof, I have not tested it yet (thank you, California drought).

Also note that the cover it a bit of a tight fit if you have the 3.2, which has the deeper front air dam, and taller rear spoiler.

Otherwise, I was thinking of ordering a custom cover from Griot's Garage (the "Evolution" is $186). They are a little pricey, but it's a little cheaper than OEM and their service can't be beat.

Good luck.

I watched audi forums and ebay for a few months and found a covercraft waterproof cover I got for my 2002 roadster for $35.00 including shipping. It has antenna, side mirror and rear spoiler pouches and fits really well. It is soft and breathable as well. If you are patient and make sure the cover fits your car there are bargains out there. This was a cover a garage bought for a customer car and it was only used for two weeks. It was $180.00 new. Other than one small smudge it looked new. It is easy to fit too. Roll your cover from the rear to the top of your car then roll the front up. Roll from the passenger side to the driver side next. The all you do to put it back on is roll from the driverside accross the top, roll front, roll back (make sure the mufflers are cool before you stretch the elastic under the back) and you are done. Good luck and happy hunting. Enjoy your TT!!
