3.2 DSG "Shudder"
Up to Audi TT Forum
where are you located? ( so I can compare service notes )
and... I should point out that all I can feel are changes in available torque... As far as how smooth it is shifting at low speed... I can not even tell when it is shifting...I have to keep an eye on the tach to see it shift, and when, and even then, if I pop the paddle shifter, I am often surprised at what gear it was in.
Try it out... in D, accelerate very gradually in no hurry up to about 25 or 35 mph...let up a little on the throttle and pull the stick over into manual mode and see what gear you are in....
I was holding off on posting until I got more information. In regard to the last few posts, my car behaves in the same way, inconsistent power at low rpm I dont know, 6th gear at 35mph yes lol. I'm so frustrated with this I'm having a hard time typing XD. Depending on how the service goes I'll post the result, or resulting(Dealer) flame fest. What I do know. My car has a rough idle at 1000 to 2500 rpm when compared to another car its rough also but mine is rougher. Compared to an 08 TT which is glassy smooth at all rpm. I cant seem to understand why the dealer refuses to adjust the timing to correct the issue. The second problem... The dealer has admitted my car has noticable shudder when manouvering at parking lot speed especially up a ramp say, and more pronounced when cold. Their proposed solution is to replace the Mechatronics unit on the DSG, something which was apparently suggested by Audi. Its going to take a week(they say) to get the part. When I ask them what will happen if it doesnt correct the problem, the response is "Then the problem is probably normal." Great! I sure have a bad feeling about this. I am located in the Los Angeles area. I'm refraining to mention the dealer until a final decision is made.

I have noticed the low speed uphill power variation... not really a shudder... just that it seems I have to press harder on the gas that I expect to get it to roll.
Once again... I keep my eye on the tack and it seems that at low speeds the car needs a threshold amount of torque to overcome the all wheel drive drag. 1500 just isn't enough...
I have noticed that, when cold, the car has some hesitation shifting from reverse to first... but that disappears once things have been running a while.
Have you tried driving in manual mode at low speed? .... does that eliminate or simmer down the shudder?
I have driven the 08TT and I think its program simply tends to stay in first and get the engine running higher.
Let me know if they can place an 08 mechatronics unit in your 05 DSG.
I assume that the name change to S-tronic indicates a significant design change... but maybe not.
I drove an 08 TT it drives completely different, its extremely smooth in its(DSG) operation. Side note: The new TT was a disapointment to drive. The "drive by wire" effect has increased 10 fold. Highly assisted steering with little feedback even in sport mode, and strange "nannied" cornering dynamics. Much more sound insulation etc. No longer much of a "sports car" IMO.
In regard to timing adjustment, if it is indeed non adjustable it would be nice if someone would confirm this as I get mixed opinions form various mechanics. I find it hard to believe that you cannot "tune" or "balance" such a widely used high performance engine as the VW VR6. I can understand ignition timing being software but Im talking about valve cam timing. My thought is this isnt a very technically oriented forum to address these questions.
In response to your second point I also need to put my foot down to get the car moving while at rest on an incline. The difference being the engine will stall for a brief period as the shudder happens then begin to take motion.
I have driven the car in manual mode as you suggested, I still get the effect. It feels as though the clutch is being engaged in a pulse like fashion creating the jolting motion.
The service manager would probably just laugh at me if i suggested putting an 08 Mechatronics unit in an 05, its a nice idea though. =D
