undecided...need some advice
Up to Audi TT Forum
Im looking at buying a 2001 Audi TT. It has 79,000 miles on it but it is absolutely gorgeous. I need info on the life of the turbo and clutch in these cars. As you can tell it's my first Audi. Please help!!
Clutches are like marriages, they can last a short time or a long time depending on how you handle it. There is no exact answer. I've seen clutches on cars driven mostly on the freeways last 150k. My son went through a clutch every 6 months as a teenager. I've seen no trend on turbo life either. Ther are lots of 100k+ cars out there with original turbos.
My '01 has the original clutch and turbo at 72,000 miles. They've had no issues at all. If it test drives well, I'd not worry too much about it. I drive it on a typical commute with mixed freeway and surface street route. I do flatter myself that I'm kind to the clutch, and have never driven anything but manuals.
My Baby is a 2000 1.8 Quattro 180 has 121,000 Miles on the original clutch n turbo (so far) with a Dual System Preformance Kit since 85,000 miles http://www.thettshop.co.uk/performance.asp?cat=3058&product=701454 and new diverter valve as OEM is plastic http://www.thettshop.co.uk/performance.asp?cat=3058&product=701440 - tried a K&N Filter but I didn't like the sound of it so back to stock one plus I only use Fully Syn Oil.
Mind you I've gone through 2 time belts / water pumps - Front shocks - 2 sets of tie bars - 1x set of front brake discs - 5 sets of all round pads - one broken clutch pedal ....
Got her 5yrs ago with 45,000miles on the clock and I wouldn't change her for the world ......
Hope that helps.
