Starting Issue 04 Quattro 3.2

Okay this is completely anecdotal, I haven't actually documented when and how often this happens.

It's not really a big problem, just something that seems to happens occasionally and I'm just curious if anyone would know why this is or if it's happened to them or if I'm crazy.....

The way my driveway is situated the passenger side door of the car is closer to me in the morning than the drivers side. So, I have this computer bag that I carry which goes in the passenger seat on my way to the office. Occasionally if I have something else in the house to get or to put the trash out etc. I will lean through the passenger door, put the key in and start the car. I usually let it warm up 20-30 seconds before I start off anyway, gives me time to put trash out when I'm done with that, the car is generally ready to go.

Okay having said all that to say this. Sometimes when I do this, the engine takes a long time to fire. It always starts, but requires 5-10 secs to crank, and then sometimes its very cobby for 10-15 sec once it does start. I have never had this happen when I start the car from the drivers seat (like I'm suppose to) it fires right up. I never touch the accelerator pedal when starting. Its pretty warm here in Dallas so I don't think the car is getting cold.

Am I loosing my mind or could there be a logical explanation for this?

thx

I can't say you're crazy... I have never started my 3.2 in this fashion... I don't leave the windows open at night, so...its never gonna happen...

Aside from the idea that you might be torquing the ignition when operating it from this odd angle...( which still should not have any effect on time to fire )
I can not think of any possible effect you could be having on the car....other than maybe tipping it slightly to the right instead of the left. ( again...what could this affect except maybe the level line of the fuel in the tank...?)

That leaves only two possible plausible explanations that I can think of....

1- illusion. It takes the same amount of time to fire the engine, it just seems longer when you are stuffed thru the opposite side of the car....

2- other external factors... There may be something about the days you start the car in this fashion that is significantly, or frequently different than the day you start it normally. Maybe your leaving earlier, or later... maybe you've parked the car more in the sunlight, and the passenger side is just a little more accessible making you more likely to start it from the right....
I don't know. But something you are not paying attention to that might affect how warm the engine, the oil or the fuel is on start....?
