My belt snapped at 93,000 miles, the total on repairs was nearly $6000. For some reason Audi never sent me the "We fouled up" paperwork to submit for the reimbursement and only found out about teh class action lawsuit via this forum.
I've been chasing after a refund for better than six months.
Since the repair, I've moved and now have to drive 200 miles to get a letter from the dealer that did the repair to explain that "Yes, the repairs were indeed necessary because the timing belt failed."
You should have never ever gone 93k miles without changing the timing belt regardless what it says in the manual. I am truly amazed it lasted that long. Most of the time the timing belt failure is due to other parts failing in the system. Such as a locked up tensioner or Waterpump that is why you should always replace the timing belt as a kit which consists of the Timing Belt, Accessory Belt. Tensioner, Waterpump, Thermostat, Thermostat housing, Cam and Crank Seals. That kit can be had from ECS Tuning for under 300 bucks. I had a local VW/Audi tuning shop install everything for less than 400 bucks including a cooling fan. So $700 bucks every 65k miles is cheap insurance to avoid a $6000 repair.
In my opinion you should never ever go more than 60-65k miles before changing the timing belt and the other items mentioned above. Those items are under constant wear and tear and are not designed to last forever.
