convertible top warning light. please help!
Up to Audi TT Forum
i just went for a little drive in my "new" 01 TT convertible. honestly, its been beautiful in DC, so I havent driven it with the top up, yet... until it started to rain tonight. I noticed that the "power folding top" warning indicator light (on the gauge cluster) wouldnt go off while the top is up and locking in place (though it goes off when the top is down).
according to my owners manual... it says that I havent latched my covertible top properly... but I am doing it 100% according to the manual. Also, it recommended to manually lower the convertible top with the ignition off, and manually put the top back up (ignition still off) and it should fix the problem... but the light is still on.
anyone heard of this? i'm going to the dealership tomorrow... but only have 48 more hours until I can return the car without any obligation to purchase. this makes me nervous. please help!

There is a micro-switch in the latching holes above the driver. Usually cleaning the area or a slight bend of the "finger" that enters the hole cures the problem.
that sounds great! I researched alot about this, but couldnt find anything. i assumed it either something really bad... or something so common that no one ever talks about it. LOL.
this is my first convertible, so i didnt know. thanks a ton though. i'll try it and report back (in case anyone ever has this problem again).

DO NOT BEND ANYTHING!
The switch lever is plastic and the arm that actuates it is aluminum.
Fixed ours today with a felt furniture protector...available at Home Depot. They are sold on a card with various sizes and have an adhesive back.
Use tweasers to place one over the plastic switch actuator, located in the windshield header on the drivers side.
This is a cheap solution that may not be permanent but better than a shop labor charge and $120 for parts.
