Buying an audi tt with DSG
Up to Audi TT Forum
i own a 2004 roadster with the 3.2L DSG. It also has the S Line badging. It is a blast to drive. If I had it to do over again I would look for a 2005 or newer. Or purchase one of the aftermarket warranties. At around 60K miles I one of the solenoids in the DSG control unit fail. It was an expensive failure. But, it is fixed and back on the road. It's an amazing car.
I have an 04 with the 3.2 and DSG, I have no problems with it and would not steer you away from a "Well Maintained" 04. The car is a blast to drive. I wanted a car that I didn't have to shift when stuck in traffic here in North Texas. I originally was looking at a Tiptronic equipped Cayman. I found the buttons on the steering wheel to be a pain to use. In addition the transmission was sluggish. The DSG is by far much better than Tiptronic.

Just a question about DSG. Are all automatic transmissions created after 2004 equipped with this? I am looking for a coupe with this option. I am looking for a coupe version.

Also- drive it.... if you are driving it with the windows down, you may notice an audible click at low speeds... this is due to the fact that the clutch must let go when you come nearly to a stop, and re-engage when you start moving... its normal.
Test drive it rather aggressively and you will note that it ought to be smooth to the point of being difficult to discern the shifting of the transmission except via the sound from the motor.
From my experience, the DSG is pretty durable...
However... Audi recommends against chipping the DSG for higher performance... the S-line DSG TTs are already tuned to the performance profile that is optimal for the DSG... and any significant boost in torque may play havoc with the transmission.
So ask about and be wary of any DSG TT that has had aftermarket kits or other enhancements, and ask whether the car has been chipped.
