That is very odd... Prior to the 09 Mk 2s I was unaware that Audi put a DSG into any car with a turbo.

It is may not be a DSG, but a tiptronic... that is, an Automatic transmission with the ability to select gears manually.

IF it has paddles, and shows six speeds when you tap the paddles, shifts almost imperceptibly, AND its on a 1.8l... then that is the first one I have heard of.... my understanding was that the DSG was only available on the 3.2 in 04 and 05.

NO-

Audi fields a purely automatic transmission, and a TipTronic transmission, both of which are torque converter autos.

The DSG is a servo controlled DUAL clutch manual.
Essentially, a manual where the two clutches are controlled by software.

It is the best performance transmission made... AND you can drive it like an automatic as you please.

I would suggest shying away from the 2004 DSGs as that was their first year on the street.
Go for a 2005 or newer.

The DSG in the 04-05 is only available with the 3.2- as that era DSG was unable to deal with the variable torque of turbos... but you will be happier for the performance and low rpm muscle of the 3.2- not to mention it's far sweeter exhaust note.

I would highly recommend looking for an S badged TT 2005- these came with not only the DSG, but also larger brakes, performance suspension and stiffer sway bars, as well as a hotter tune for the engine.

You can tell its S badged by the small red and silver badge low on the side of the car, aft of the doors.
Many used car resellers will not realize the car is DSG nor S-line equipped.
If you see this badge in a photo online, chances are its a DSG equipped TT.

Aside from some limited release two seaters with old fashioned manuals and lighter high turbo boost engines, The S-line DSG is the highest performance TT made in 04 and 05.

The Two seaters had a slightly better power to weight and weight distribution--- but there is no way you can outshift the DSG in any car.

Will Mine is a 1.8 180 hp 2005 coupe.  It was up on the rack at the dealer and when you look up thru and on the side of the trans casing there was a sticker that said DSG.  It doesnt have the paddles per say on the steering wheel  but it does have a buttom on the left and right side of the steering wheel about the size of your thumb and you just push to shift. I questioned the service manager and he said it was a DSG.  I'm not that familiar with which models had it and which didnt as this is my first Audi.

Wow-
I had never even heard of such a thing...

Buttons on the FRONT of the wheel?
I have never seen a DSG on a 180 hp and never heard of the DSG with buttons rather than paddles...

Is this a car sold in the US?

I have a similar question about automatic transmissions. Do the 2010s have the DSG that people say is so great? My 2010 Roadster will arrive in April. I miss not having the 6 speed manual as an option and got the 2.0 with the automatic because the TTS was too pricey.
