i just took my 01 roadster in and of course i was told that the timing belt showed wear, and that it needed to be replaced, for 1900.00. what i am wondering is i have seen so many different cost for this i would think it should be almost the same at least for the same year. any feed back as to what you were told the cost would be and why the diff. would be awsome, again sorry for the new timing belt post.
I thought this was covered under the warranty????
Not at all if they recomand the replacment it is on you all the way. Thanks for the feed back that was at audi of alexandrea in VA. I am calling a couple places tomarrow to get prices because they arnt going to cover it why pay the extra money..... thought that was way up there thought.
I think that some of the confusion here concerning the cost is that some are quoting just the belt replacement or belt and tensioner or belt, tensioner and water pump. Make sure when you get the quote for what they are replacing. My service writer quoted me $950, I said "that's pretty reasonable, do you replace the water pump too?" to which she answered "yes". Dropped the car off yesterday and picked it up last night, belt and tensioner $956, no water pump, her word against mine. Told them they just lost a customer, I'll buy a Chevy instead of the new A6 I was looking at.
IMHO if you have 65k + on your car you might just as well have the water pump done. If the pump goes out before the next belt replacement it will be another $600 or so labor.
this may have been stated here already, but apparently some TT owners are having their water pumps replaced with after market ones that have metal impellers rather than the stock pumps which have plastic impellers. if mine was off of warranty i'd likely do the same, but for now i'm just having everything replaced to spec as it is still under the CPO warranty.
