Rear Brake Calipers

I'm in the process of painting my brake calipers. After removing the rear left caliper, the piston became extended quite a bit(I suspect to it's max). I can't get it back. I tried a clamp with moderate pressure, it moves only about a 16th of an inch. I'm afraid to really crank it, it shouldn't take this much pressure to move it back. Should I get a large C clamp and really crank it? Any suggestions?

the tt calipers are a bitch!!! i just did my brakes and to compress them you have to use the compressing tool and turn the piston to the right(i think) it was real hard i remeber i wedged the caliper between something and just cranked away... also remeber as your turning the piston you have to press it in pushing aginst it with some force.
