I was driving my car this morning and it was fine. I got back in the car this afternoon and the car started up fine. I drove around the corner and the car seemed like it wanted to cut off, kinda of puttering, then I heard a hissing noise that seemed like it was coming from the front manifold, but it quickly went away. So I drove to where I had to go. I came to a stop light and then the car seemed like it wanted to stall or cut off and started puttering again, then it was fine. I parked, went inside and left the car running, came back out and the engine light was on. The car is now riding fine but the engine light stays on. The day before I was driving and it was very cold and has been cold for several days except for today. Yesterday when I was driving the car the gas light came on so I stopped and let my cousin pump the gas but I'm wondering if he put the gas cap on correctly as I know that this can cause the engine light to come on. If this is the case how long does it take for the engine light to go off? I have just filled the tank up and the engine light is still on. Any thoughts on what the problem could be? I have a 2002 quattro turbo wiht 62,300 miles. I've had the card a little over a year and have only put four thousand miles on the car in 13 months.

If your not having any more problems with it, then it prob was the gas cap. I can't remember but i think the light goes out after so many miles or days have past.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I got in the car today engine light is still on but engine sounds, fine and car is running fine. What do you think caused the sputtering(like the engine wanted to to cut off)?

... for the CEL/MIL to reset, but if you can track down a VAG tool and run a scan, you'd know for sure. It might also answer your sputtering question.

Okay thanks where can I get a VAG Tool? How much do they usually cost?
