I am having the same small evap leak problem with my 2002 quattro tt. The CEL is on, I'm only getting an average of 15 mpg when I usually can get 23 mpg, and I'm going through an entire gas tank in 2-3 days. I've tried tightening my gas cap, but that does not seem to be the problem. Maybe I should buy a new one, does anyone have any recommendations?

I just had my timing belt and water pump changed, could the mechanic have left something loose? Has anyone solved this issue yet?

Sometimes problems with the fuel system (tank, lines, pump) can cause both the CEL and loss of MPG. Head to Autozone or the like and pull the code number from your OBDII to see what the issue says.

I took my car in for an emissions test and safety test. The "check engine light" has been on since I had a new battery put in, the windows quit working properly also. They found 12 codes in the computer! It shut down their emissions testing equipment, There were more sensor problems than I ever had, I had to spend a $450 requirement to a shop where the state of Missouri wanted me to go to. They replaced all kind of shit, bottom line! It had more codes in it AFTER they worked on it. Even my windows didn't work properly. I ended up getting a waiver, the guy that worked on it told me, I could work 3 hours or 3 days and still might not find everything that's wrong. Found out, after I put up and down the top, the windows now work correctly! German technology? They told me Audi's and Volkswagen have more problems than any other car imported to the states. Anyone wants to pay 24 hours @ $100 bucks an hour? They still won't say they will find all the problems. He told me, one sensor might control as many as four different items.
