Convertible Top Window Fell Out
Up to Audi TT Forum
I recently experienced success reattaching the glass in my convertible top. It was coming loose in the two lower corners (about 6-8 inches on each side). I first tried numerous adhesives including high strength marine adhesive/silicone but the challenge is adhering glass, being non-porous, to fabric. The auto upholstery shop I went to said I needed to replace the entire top. I then consulted a respectable body shop who accepted the challenge and I'm glad to say succeeded. They did all repairs with the top still on the car but my glass was still 60% secure. They used black structural adhesive that is designed for windshield installation taking special care not to let any of the glue show. They also "roughed-up" the edge of the glass a bit to hold the adhesive better. They did the repair in a day. Labor of course was the biggest cost. I paid $189.90. It looks original.
The dealer told me that they did "some work" on the convertable top before they displayed it for sale. I'm going to have to take a look and see how well my back window is holding up. To be honest though my top looks brand new so it could be they just replaced it.
Hello, I have an Audi tt with the same issue. I live in west Palm Beach..can you please tell me how much does it cost to fix the top and how long does it take to do it?
Does anyone know where i can get instructions on how to replace the top myself?
I am about to order a replacement top and am pretty handy. If there is somewhere that illustrates how to get the old clothe off and the new one on, that would be great!
Here is a link regarding repair of the bonding issue. It may help you replace your top.
