I'm a bit confused on this suit. Did we have to register to be eligable? Did we have to have damage or have it inspected or replaced at our cost to be in this suit? The site doesn't really explain that.

My carfax shows that one of the timing belt pullies were replaced a few thousand miles ago so I imagine that they inspected the belt to see if it needed replacement.

Average cost of inspection?

You will be covered by Audi North America. I just had my entire engine replaced at the dealership in my '01 with 70K on it. Go to: http://www.psswplaw.com/CM/ClassActions/Volkswagen.asp You should also have been contacted by mail. VW/Audi was required to send 2 notices to any owner found in all 50 states' DMVs! I would do a quick bit of hw and make sure the belt itself is broken. This is the only way to get the engine replaced. It won't matter if the belt has snapped, or if the teeth had sheared off like mine, but just make sure it isn't the tensioner or any other issue. Good Luck!

My timing belt ruined my engine as well. The car had about 60,000 miles. I sent the $4,000 repair bill to Audi and, to my complete astonishment, a month later they sent me a check for $4,000.
