Did they fix it? I'm confused by your question. My gas gauge seems to be accurate, along with the computer readout. The low fuel light comes on somewhere around one of the red marks, and with 25-30 miles to go on the computer.
yeah, i run into the same problem... BUT, i haven't ran out of gas yet. I typically have to fill up when the gauge is at the halfway point. Don't want the dealer trying to fix something that doesn't affect the drive of my car and have them breaking something else. i usually go with what the computer readout says in terms of miles left. That seems more accurate. Keep in mind how many gallons of gasoline u use at when meter reading, whilst knowing the capacity of your tank. I think my tank may only be around 14.5 gallons, but the 225 horse 1.8T has 17 gallons or so i believe.

FAULTY GAS GAUGE CLARIFICATION (2002-225)
THE CAR RAN OF GAS JUST BELOW THE 1/4 MARK=NOT WHAT I EXPECTED! DEALER HAS TO ORDER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER- IT IS DEFINITELY WORTH FIXING!~

FAULTY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
Had my '02 225hp at Audi last week for increased wind noise and THEY noted a fault temp gauge (its always read one mark above the half-way point), but they offered to replace the cluster as it tends to be a problem. The exchange is scheduled for Friday.
