Water light on when cold...

Posted by jayb at January 26. 2005
The water light kicks on when I start my car on these cold January mornings. Fluid is full and we look good. I drive to the first light and restart the car and the light never comes on again for the rest of the day. What's the deal? Anyone else experiencing this? I noticed my wifes BMW does the same thing...

All the time. I figure it's just a glitch since there are no other signs of a problem. The dealer shrugged when I mentioned it yesterday upon an oil change. Seems there are enough glitches in the mapping to dangerously ignore some potential "real" problems. I can live with it like I can the road salt on my carpetting for 2 or 3 months.

When you say "water light" do you mean the temperature/thermometer icon? If I understand correctly, the temperature gauge is based on the level of the coolant, which expands and contracts. I added about a cup of additional coolant after asking my mechanic and it doesn't come on anymore.
